IPL Auction 2024 Most Expensive Players

On December 19th, the Indian Premier League (IPL) held an auction where some of the biggest names in cricket were up for bidding. Some of the most expensive players in the tournament’s history were sold at the IPL Auction 2024 Most Expensive Players. Multiple records were broken throughout the auction’s transactions. One of the most notable transactions being the acquisition of Mitchell Starc by Kolkata Knight Riders for a staggering Rs. 24.75 crore. This made him the most expensive player in the history of IPL.

Before Starc, Pat Cummins commanded the highest price in the IPL auction, securing Rs. 20.50 crore after a fierce bidding competition. He became the highest-paid player in the history of IPL after this. It was a historic moment as it marked the first time in IPL Auction history that a player managed to break the 20-crore barrier. Cummins, who had earlier been acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs. 15.50 crore in the 2019 auction, was auctioned to SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in this edition.

In addition to Cummins, SunRisers Hyderabad also secured the services of Travis Head, Cummins’ Australian teammate, for Rs. 6.8 crore. With these acquisitions, SRH looks poised to make a strong run in the upcoming IPL season.

The previous record for the most expensive player in IPL history was held by Sam Curran, who was acquired by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs. 18.50 crore in the 2023 IPL auction. However, this record was shattered by both Starc and Cummins in the latest edition of the auction.

Overall, it was a thrilling auction that showcased the enormous value that top cricketing talent can bring to the IPL. Fans can expect an exhilarating season ahead, given the recent high-profile acquisitions.
